Womenswold
Welcome to St Margaret of Antioch Church, eight miles south east of Canterbury, serving the hamlets of Womenswold (or ‘Wymynswold’ in the old spelling), Woolage Village* and Woolage Green. Perhaps because these three communities are so small, the church is a particularly close ‘family’ and people are exceptional in the way that they look after each other.
The church building is unusual, in having no side aisles and a large Chancel, where services are usually held on the comfortable chairs that were installed in place of Victorian choir stalls. The services here are always relaxed and friendly.
Recently a significant amount of work has been done to repair stonework on the tower, to move the Font, and to create additional space at the rear of the church.
There are normally two services each month, a Holy Communion service at 9.30 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month, and Songs of Praise at 9.30 a.m. on the third.
*Woolage Village was originally known as White City, and was built earlier in the 20th Century to provide homes for the then developing Kent Coal Field and the local Snowdown Colliery.
This church is not normally kept open, but a list of local key-holders is on display in the church porch.
