Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral Care Team (PCT) was commissioned as an Authorised Lay Ministry (ALM) for the Barham Downs Benefice at the end of December 2018.

The PCT consist of lay volunteers and current team members are: Kay, Pauline, Gubby, Mary and Helen who underwent specific training during 2018 supported by local facilities including 'The Living Well' at Nonington and 'The Quiet View' in Kingston. Training included: learning what we mean about spirituality; what ministry gifts we offer; pastoral visiting skills; guidelines and supervision, the relevance and importance of the Eucharist; listening skills and recognising the pastoral and theological issues of suffering. Training continues throughout the year including regular supervision meetings.

The PCT will support the parish priest in visiting the bereaved, the lonely and in bringing Holy Communion to those who are unwell.

We are reminded about Jesus sending out his disciples (Luke 10) to proclaim that the kingdom of God is near and knows no boundaries but also the instruction of the early Church to assist those who are suffering (James 5).

We pray that God continues to call upon others to assist us…

The Harvest Is Great, the Labourers Few – Matthew 9:35-38

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’

Anyone who would like to be visited by a member of the PCT should contact Rev Stefan (RevT)
